Kozmo - gone to the Rainbow Bridge10/14/07 Kozmo's owner writes "We find our lives so empty without you. You brought to us your sparkling personality which touched our lives so deeply. Little did we know what a blessing you were to us. Thank you for being there when we needed you."

on her back to wriggle and snort and make eskie snow angels. She also enjoyed chasing anything that moved in the backyard, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, etc. Luckily she wasn't fast enough to actually catch any of them, just chased them out of HER yard. She also had three doggie buddies on the other side of the fence that she would run and run with along the fence line. There is now a rut running all along the fence. My favorite thing was the way she would sleep on her back with all four feet in the air tight up against me in the BIG bed. Sometimes I would find myself with very little room, but of course I couldn't disturb the princess's sleep. I only had the joy of Molly's presense for a year and a half before autoimmune hemolytic anemia took her from me, but I wouldn't trade that time for anything. She was a wonderfully sweet and loving dog and will be greatly missed by her sister and myself."
SASHA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 9/2006 Sasha was just a year old when she came into rescue. Because of her issues she never left the rescue program, and instead was "adopted" by the mother of a volunteer. At just three years old, Sasha was striken by a disease called Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia which took her life suddenly. Here is what Jen has to say about Sasha: "She was perhaps one of the sweetest dogs I ever knew. She wanted nothing more out of life than to have someone to snuggle up to that would rub her ears and her belly. She had been through a lot in her short life and had issues with trust, but once she trusted you, you were her friend for life. I am glad we had her in our lives, and wish we could have her back
SOPHIE - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 6/2006 Sophie came into rescue two years ago when her owner had to go into a nursing home. She was adopted quickly and had a wonderful life in her new home. Her owner writes "You came to me when you were eleven years old, but you were my baby. Every time I take my shower, I think of you standing guard on the bath mat until I was finished. Whenever I was in the house, we were never apart. I look down and expect to see you by my feet. I'll always remember how much you loved your walks at the Glen, and when I walk there with Dakota, I'll think of you. You were my special girl, and I'll love you forever".
ESSIE - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 6/2006 Essie was 12 years old when she came into rescue. Thanks to the terrific couple who adopted her, she had two more fabulous years of life. Her owner writes: "Essie was an exuberant dog that loved running and barking. She also loved riding in the car. She and Casper sat in the back seat where they each had their own window. Essie was happy and very active until last November when she became blind within a couple of weeks due to retinal degeneration. Toward the end, she slowed down drastically. It broke my heart to come to the conclusion that I had to let her go. Dr. George gave her one shot to make her unconscious; then another to stop her heart. Essie died in my arms and my heart broke."
ROGAN - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 5/29/2004 Rogan was rescued from an over crowded shelter on the day he was to be put to sleep. We were told he was a friendly dog that liked to be carried around and got along well with the other dogs. Once in our home we found out differently. Rogan was rather crabby and didn’t like any kind of activity. He was up for adoption for a while, but we soon realized there was little chance of finding him a good home and so he became a resident of our home. During the two years he was with us, we grew attached to Rogan and his quirky ways. Rogan’s life was cut short by acute pancreatitis. As ornery as he was, we miss him.
FLURRY - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 6/20/2005 Flurry was my first rescued dog. Her owner bought her from a pet store when he was in college. All was well for the first few months, but then the owner moved home and got a job. Flurry was stuck in the basement of his parent’s home for 12 hours a day. She was only 11 months old when she came to live with us, and over the next 11 years was always a joy to have around. She was a #1 couch potato and love sponge and had the cutest little “woo, woo, woo” way of saying hello. Her sudden death took us by surprise – the ER doc said she probably had an undetected heart condition. Flurry was a very special girl who we miss very much.

DAKOTA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 10/14/07 Dakota's owner writes "She was the favorite of my kids, and this is hard. I think she was the most beautiful dog we ever had, and she had some good years with us. Thank you so much for bringing her to us. She was an incredibly special gift."
MOLLY - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 4/20/2007 Molly's owner writes "Molly and her sister Mandy came into my life when they were 8 years old, through eskie rescue in August of 2005. I had just lost another eskie the month before and wasn't sure I was ready for a new dog. Well, somehow I ended up on petfinder.com and these two just called out to me. Within two weeks I was making the trip south (from the U.P. of Michigan) and Joanne was making the trip north to meet in the middle. As soon as I got these two love bugs home it was like they had been here forever. Molly especially enjoyed playing outside in our abundant snow. She would dive head first into a snowbank and come up with her face covered in snow and then flip over

BROCK - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 12/20/07 Brock's owner writes "We are sad, yet have been reliving the short-lived but happy times we got to enjoy with Brock. He was a handful at first, but once he settled in some I can't imagine having a better dog. He was gentle, affectionate, fun-loving, active, and he brought joy to everyone. We will miss our "Christmas Dog" but hold the memories of him in our hearts."

NATASHA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 3/18/08 We don't know how old Natasha was when she came into rescue, but she was definitely a senior. Natasha was adopted in July of '06 and given a wonderful home where she was loved and pampered for the last few years of her life. Her owner writes: "I am going to miss her cute little face and the way she bounced up and down when she was waiting for her meals."
ANNIE - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 2/2008 Annie was 15-16 years old when she was adopted in March of '06. Thanks to the kind person who took her in to his home, she lived almost another two years, happy and well cared for.

SADIE - gone to the Rainbow Bridge on 12/8/08 Sadie's owner writes: Sadie was rescued at 1 1/2 years old and lived a wonderful fun filled life with her human family until she was 15. Sadie was the epitome of an Eskie... Playful, brilliant, loving, and gorgeous! While her antics drove some to distraction, I never tired of her mischievous and highly energetic spirit. I will miss my best friend forever!!!

SHASTA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge on 12/'08 Shasta's owner writes: Shasta, your life will never be forgotten, and it will always be missed. I will miss being greeted by your morning nibbles, I will miss your company while playing all those video games, and I will miss your unconditional love and trust. I hope you're in a better place now, playing with other dogs and nibbling other ankles. Until we meet again in heaven, rest in peace my shy Shasta.

BEN - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 2/9/09 Ben's owner writes: Ben is gone from our home now, but he will never be gone from our hearts. READ BEN'S STORY HERE

NALA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 5/12/09 Nala's owner wrote: Our loving, sweet Nala lost her battle with cancer last night. She put up a very brave fight, never whimpering or showing pain until last night, when it all became a little too much for her to bear. We are incredibly saddened already by the loss of our little girl--she really meant the world to us. At least we got to be with her to comfort her as she took her very last breath and left our world (and her pain) behind her.
In all the thousands of dogs we have run across since we adopted Nala, we have yet to meet a dog as special as her. She had a way of getting everyone, even people who swore they didn't like dogs, to say hello and fall for her goofy grin (at least enough to scratch her soft head). Thank you so much for bringing this dog into our lives. Our lives have been fulfilled these past years because she was a part of them.
ZSA ZSA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 11/11/09 When ZsaZsa came to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue, the volunteers tried to find her a home. No one wanted her, so one of the volunteers adopted ZsaZsa herself. She wrote: I'm so glad no one else wanted her. Zsa Zsa never made a good first impression. I had to love her myself.

SELINA - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 1/9/10 Celina's owner wrote: I lost my baby today. Selina started hemoraging so we rushed her to the vet where she was diagnosed as having cancer. While waiting for the doctor, we said our good byes. All I could see was her beautiful eyes staring back at me and how sick she was. Our house is so empty now. I can still hear the pitter pat of her feet on our kitchen floor. Barking at the mail man, chasing cats and squirrels. I miss my "shadow"; she followed me everywhere. Frank always said, "you girls always stick together".

NINA - gone to the rainbow bridge 11/04/11 Nina was rescued in May of 2007 from death row at an over-crowded city shelter. She waited very patiently in a foster home until her forever home came along in March of 2008. Nina had both health and behavior issues, but in her new home she was very much loved and cared for like no other. In October 2011 Nina became very ill. Despite the best veterinary care, we had to say good-bye.

ADDIE - gone to the rainbow bridge 6/23/11 Addie was my beautiful Eskie girl for 18.5 years. She was 6 months old when I brought her home from a pet shop. Her lack of training and social skills is what got me involved in learning about animal behavior. We enjoyed many weekend adventures, agility classes, and just hanging around with the other dogs. She had the softest coat that flowed like water when she ran. I miss her very much.
If it weren't for him being so close to me I don't know how I would have taken it. Then in 2009 I got the news that Casper had degenerative eye disease and would slowly go blind; which eventually happened in 2010. By then he was completely blind. He adapted slowly and did fine the first year. The second year his health began to deteriorate and he got more depressed. Finally by the fall of 2011 his kidney counts began to go up and he was no longer the happy-go-lucky dog we had come to love. I talked to the vet and we decided that the kindest thing I could do for him was to let him go, as much as it would break my heart. So 10/29/11 the vet came to my house to give him the shots. I held him in my arms when the vet administered the shots and the last thing he felt were my arms and my love. I cried and hugged him and kissed him. Then my heart broke.
CASPER - gone to the Rainbow Bridge 10/29/11 On Memorial Day weekend of 2004 Casper came to live with us in his forever home. He was so friendly and lively that we named him Casper after Casper the friendly Ghost. He was a joy and a bundle of energy from the day he came. He was the playmate of Essie, another Eskie we adopted from the Eskie Connection. He was a lost dog so the vet guessed his age to be between 3 and 5. He was always a cheerful dog who loved to cuddle on the couch and loved going for walks and car rides. He and Essie were king and queen of the backyard. He loved everyone and got along well with other dogs and loved going for walks. We took him to the Botanic Garden for the Santa Parades and walks and then to the Halloween Parade and Walk. In 2006, after a year of blindness we lost our Essie to illness so Casper became my sole comforter during my husband's long illness. In 2008 my husband passed away and Casper got me through some trying times; always there for me.
